Cassbar Shelties

Cassbar began when Dale and I welcomed our first Sheltie, Cassidy, into our family. Although Cassidy has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge, she will always hold a special place in our hearts and remains an important part of the Cassbar story.
 

Dogs have always been a major part of my life. I grew up surrounded by Newfoundland dogs through my family’s kennel, Blackgold Kennels, so the dog world has felt like home for as long as I can remember.
 

We originally planned to try a little obedience training with our Shelties. Before long, we discovered herding, conformation and agility—and we were hooked. What began as a casual interest quickly grew into a passion for training, competing and sharing our lives with these wonderful dogs.
 

We live on a five-acre property in Headingley, Manitoba, just outside Winnipeg. Three acres are fully fenced, giving our dogs plenty of safe space to run, play and explore.
 

Our dogs are first and foremost beloved members of our family and spend most of their time in our home. They also have a comfortable space of their own beside the house, complete with in-floor heating, carpeting and plenty of room to relax.
 

The pond in front of our home is a favourite gathering place. Our Australian Shepherd, Rave, especially enjoys encouraging the Shelties to join in for a swim. The pond is also home to our colourful goldfish.
 

Our puppies are raised in the kitchen, where they experience the everyday sights, sounds and activities of family life. This early socialization helps them grow into confident, adaptable and loving companions.
 

At Cassbar, our goal is to produce Shelties that can succeed in a variety of activities while also being wonderful family pets. Temperament is our highest priority, along with health, sound structure and overall quality. We strive to raise outgoing, well-mannered Shelties that are equally comfortable in the show ring, performance events or relaxing at home with their families.
